June 16, 2020

 

Hi Everyone.  Hope you are all doing okay and keeping busy.  Thank you to everyone who is sharing your stories and I hope to hear from everyone in the weeks to come.

 

Here’s our news for this week:

 

 

No virtual meeting this week and I’m hoping that we have all the bugs worked out for our fourth Zoom meeting next Tuesday at 12:15 pm.  I’ll send the link for the meeting out next Sunday with the weekly 3fer message.

 

Next week will be President Tom’s last meeting of the year.  Until things settle down with COVID, we will not be able to give him the traditional Kick Out sendoff, so please try to join us next Tuesday to give him a good word or two.

 

If anyone knows of any of our members in distress or that need anything, please let President Tom or one of the Board Members know.  We want to make sure everyone knows that we are here to take care of each other.

 

 

This is an opportunity for us to share whatever information we would like so we can keep up with what everyone is doing these days.

 

Cathy (as reported from Scott’s mingle visit this week) – Cathy is her normal happy self, though admits going through this pandemic isn't easy. She celebrated a friend's birthday recently at a Castrol Street restaurant, on a sidewalk table. This was so refreshing for her to get out and enjoy something like that again. Because she lives close to Paul and Susan she really enjoyed doing a safe distance cocktail with them in their backyard. 

 

Bill M. (as reported from Scott’s mingle visit a few weeks ago) – Professionally, Bill is really busy with plenty of work and needing to compensate for some of his employees who aren't coming in for now. Bill asked me to pass on his "best" to other members of the club. He looks forward to a future format where we can get together again. 

 

Scott – I continue working essentially half time at Villa Siena, going into work one or two times per week to take care of things I can't handle remotely. At my old age it is great to be able to play it safe, doing what is needed mostly at home ... not like the nurses, house keepers, dietary and other essential Villa Siena staff who need to report to work.   Through this pandemic, no Villa Siena resident has contracted the virus. But, we had one staff member, a housekeeper, test positive 2 weeks ago. They were asymptomatic, were immediately shut out of the facility, and then tested negative the week after. When this happened, 100% of Villa Siena residents and staff were tested, including me, with no one additionally testing positive. So, the days move on and we know that greatest risk are those who come in and out, primarily the staff. The temperature taking, questions asked, disinfecting, no visitors, no new admissions continues. Within the facility, there are safe social activities with limited numbers, and safe visits with family and friends are made available virtually and by appointment for safe physical distancing visits. Our Executive Director, Corine Bernard, knows that senior care facilities will be the last businesses that are allowed to make changes back to some type of normal. 

 

Anybody else escaped to the ocean! Joan and I have done this a few times, with appropriate support items like a drink. Very rejuvenating. 

 

 

Heather (as reported from Bruce’s mingle visit this week) – Knowing that Heather and her family are extremely active, I waited until later in the evening to make my mingle call.  And wouldn’t you know it, they were still out at the beach playing baseball and catching those last rays of sunshine for the day.  It is so nice to see Heather and her family making the best of these crazy times and I’m sure it is a time that her Sons Samuel and Daniel will remember fondly.

 

Bruce – Last Saturday night, my son JJ and his wife Liana welcomed their first son, River Rome Barsi.  He was on the large side at 8 pounds, 12 ounces, and 21.25 inches long.  Everyone is doing well and back home getting used to diapers, multiple feedings and little sleep.
